Technical Descriptionwaterproofing of roof by Varnamo EPDM systemOn a prepared deck (reinforced concrete slab) vapour barrier is used (TenoArm foil – 0.20mm thick, in accorddance with EU standards for this type of material). Vapour barrier should be placed in whole surface of horizontal projection and lift up vertically prior to the end of thermal insulation, with mutual sticky joints whom provides 100% connetion between layers. The thermal insulation is placed immediately on finished vapour barrier. The type and thickness of thermal insulation depends of building physics calculations.Over installed thermal insulation and PE foil, a downgrade concrete layer has to be build. Downgrade layer is build from lightweight concerte with roof pitch arranged by construction project, towards roof drains. Waterrproofing layer is made of EthylenePropyleneDienMonomere – EPDM. Geotextile is placed under and over the EPDM as mechanical protection of EPDM. Usually EPDM is transported to site in prefabricated panels prepared in workshop, what urges the site production. The joints of prefabricated panels are vulcanized on the site with portable vulcanizing machines. Vertical waterproofing EPDM layer is placed and attached on wall with Adhesive 5000. The edges of EPDM are finished under the metal sheet in top of walls, or in mechanical way with aluminium bar min. thickness of 15mm. Mechanical fixing is performed with raw plugs for concrete with distance of 20 cm. The top of bar and edges of EPDM are sealed with Sealant 5590. Over EPDM comes geotextile (min. 200gr/m2) i.e. Mechanical protection. On top of the geotextile comes PE foil and the layers are prepared for ballast, such as ceramic tiles on layer of mortar, or prefab slabs in sand, etc. Tendency in past years is that final layer on top of waterproofing is “green roof”. To achive this we can add drainage and vegetative layers depends which plants we wont on roof ( grass, flowers, bushes etc. ) EPDM is unique material, resistant to root penetration. This is important as there is no needs of extra protection from root penetration. |
